SPECIAL EVENTS
The Annual Holiday Gala is our biggest fundraising event of the year, and the funds raised allow us to continue the important work that we do to impact the lives of the people we serve. To the many people who have attended our fundraisers in the past and have also donated to the event, the EPIC team extends our deepest gratitude for your support. Your unwavering contributions help us to accomplish our mission.

Meet Tyrel, he has an energetic, lively, and vivacious personality with a smile that lights up any room. Tyrel receives Personal Supports through EPIC’s Community Development Services program (CDS). When he is at home, Tyrel enjoys watching the Food Network, the Game Show Network, and streaming music videos on YouTube. When he is in the community, Tyrel enjoys participating in a variety of activities including shopping, going to the movies, and playing basketball. One of Tyrel’s proudest moments was when he took a swimming class at the Allentown Recreational Center and received a certificate of completion. EPIC empowers Tyrel to meet his personal goals of being fully integrated into his community alongside non-disabled individuals in a variety of ways including helping him to volunteer at Mission of Love charities, take dance classes at Cedar Heights Community Center, and participate in a local bowling team with his peers.

Meet Sherry, she has been working as a custodian at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland for over 16 years. In this role, Sherry is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining the building’s offices and bathrooms as a Melwood contractor. Her Supervisor also seeks her help when setting the facility for meetings or events. Although Sherry worked at Giant Food Stores and Burger King prior to working at NASA, she credits her EPIC Job Coach for helping her to gain the confidence she needed to apply and interview for her current job. When she is not at work, Sherry enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She also enjoys going to the movies and getting her hair and nails done at local salons. EPIC’s Supported Employment services empowers Sherry to meet her professional goals by providing drop-in job support, finding out from Sherry and her supervisor what is working and what is not working on the job site, supporting her with problem-solving at work, and with developing the skills she needs to advance in her career.

Meet Liz, she has a lively and likable personality and is well liked by all including staff and her roommates for her sense of humor that always brings life into her group home. Liz’s sister Marie also plays a very big part in her life, often scheduling opportunities to visit their family and friends together. EPIC’s Residential Program was very worried when Liz tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). That is why her staff promptly swung into action and ensured that Liz had the very best medical attention available. Staff provided her with all around care and support with her medical, nutritional, and personal needs. Liz was also provided with information about COVID-19 including the necessary safety precautions to keep herself safe and advocate for her own needs. Now a COVID-19 survivor, Liz is even more committed to living life to the fullest.
